It's doable and may be easier than you think!

When a few innovative minds come together and harness their collective passion, anything can happen. As we've learned firsthand, establishing a community fabrication lab (fab lab) doesn't require a monumental capital investment, Silicon Valley tech-head input or a warehouse-sized facility. Indeed, a startup can be accomplished with some fairly basic tools and equipment and a modest amount of square footage. The secret ingredients, however, are adaptable thinking and a strong grip. Because once the seed is planted, there's no telling where it will grow, and you have to be prepared to hang on!

In Community Boot Camp: How to Start a FAB LAB from Ground Zero, we'll share our experience in building from scratch the local phenomenon that is Fab Lab ICC, the only maker space in the world incorporating the hands-on creative experience with the entrepreneurial mindset philosophy using the revolutionary Ice House Entrepreneurship program to build the community mindset. It's a powerful combination that has sparked innovations and success stories we never dreamed possible when we launched the concept in 2014 in our rural Kansas community of Independence, Kansas.

We strongly believe we've hit upon a winning formula that can help breathe new economic life into not only our small town, but rural communities throughout the country. We have a fascinating story to share, as well as some practical advice on how you can create a similar experience anywhere, anytime, even with limited resources.
